What is a vintage rug?
According to most experts, “vintage” (sometimes also referred to as semi-antique) is used to describe something that’s at least 20 years old, but less than 100 years old. It’s not antique yet, but still a long-treasured piece that has been carefully worn and stood the test of time.
What’s the best way to care for my rug?
Regular care will help your rug last for decades to come. We recommend that you regularly vacuum your rug to remove dirt and grime. Depending on how heavily your rug is used, just once or twice a month is adequate. Too much vacuuming can wear down the knots and fibers more quickly. If you have a suction attachment on your vacuum cleaner, use that instead of a rotary vacuum (which may increase shedding and possible damage to the wool fibers).
To keep your rug looking great, consider rotating it every six months to a year. Rotating it regularly helps prevent matting and discoloration from foot traffic. Also, rotating it prevents it from collecting excess dirt in one spot and sun damage.
Every 3-5 years, we recommend getting your rug professionally hand-washed.
When accidents happen prompt action can prevent the spill from becoming a permanent stain. Start blotting the spill with a clean white cloth. Work form the outside in, never rub as this can set the stain deeper into the fibers. You can use a small amount of clear detergent mixed with water to clean the area.

Why does my vintage rug have white dots?
Some vintage rugs have visible tie-offs that look like white dots. They are part of the handmade process and occur where weavers tie off strings from the warp that can break during hand-weaving. They do not compromise the integrity of the rug.

What are the zig-zag marks that appear on some vintage rugs?
Zig-zag marks, not uncommon on vintage rugs. They are from the rug’s original construction and reflect tie-offs of the cotton foundation/weft. When present, they indicate that the rug was most likely woven by several people who consistently worked on the rug to completion.
FAQ's
How do I measure for a rug?
When measuring for rugs it's essential to leave space around the edges of your rug.
A good rule of thumb is to leave at least 18 inches of bare floor around the edges of the rug. This will create a border around the rug, making it look more intentional and deliberate. It is also important to consider the placement of your furniture when choosing the size of your rug. Once you have finalized the furniture placement, use painters tape to create a mock-up of the rug.
Living Room: you can place the front legs of your sofa and chairs on the rug. This will create a cohesive seating area.
Bedroom: you can place the rug under the bed, with enough space on each side to step onto a soft surface. Smaller rugs can be placed on either side of the bed as well as the foot of the bed.
What size is right for you?
Living Room: typical sizes are 8’ x 10’, 9’ x 12’ 10’ x 14’ - all furniture legs sit on top of the rug, leaving approximately 6-18 inches of space between the rug and the walls.
King bed: typical sizes are 9’ x 12’ rug or 10’ x 14’. Most bedrooms you want to cover the sides and end of the bed.
Queen Bed: typical sizes are 8’ x 10’ or you could get away with 6’ x 9’ if you don’t mind more exposed flooring.
Dining Room: typical sizes are 8’ x 10’ for most dining rooms. If you have a large room a 9’ x 12’ might be appropriate. For smaller cozier space a 6’ x 9’ might work nicely.
Hallways - we recommend letting the runner match the shape of the hallway.
